Hi Nancy! Wow, this is so exciting – I completely missed your reply to my post on the GenForum! I hadn’t checked the forum in several years, and for some reason I never received an email from them about your comment. I’m so glad that you emailed me!

I thought I was never going to find out anything more about the Decker line! I don’t have any more info about John and Margaretha (other than their names), so I would love to find out more about them and their ancestors and descendants. I’m especially interested in which countries they or their ancestors immigrated from. I’ve assumed that the Decker name is either German or Dutch. My mother, who is still living (age 91) would also love to know more about this line of her family.

My g-grandparents, George and Charlotte Decker, both died relatively young, in their 40s. Charlotte is buried in a cemetery in Poughkeepsie, NY, with other members of her family (the Carson line). George and Charlotte’s daughter, Edna, was my grandmother. My mom (Charlotte) was named after her grandmother. If you have any interest in this line of the Decker descendants, I have quite a bit more info I can give you on them.

Thanks for getting in touch with me! Hope to hear from you soon!

GenForum just restructured, now showing email addresses! -- so thought I'd try reaching you via email, in case you didn't see my reply on Genforum (2 years ago), to your post there in 2006.

Would love to compare family stories about our mutual gg-grandparents!

-- your post --

I'm looking for information on John C. Decker of New York (probably New York City), who was born somewhere between 1820 and the early 1830s. His wife's name was Martha. Their son, George W. Decker, was my g-grandfather, who married Charlotte Carson.

-- my reply --

Alice, we need to talk :-)  My gg-grandparents are John C Decker and Margaretha Decker (listed as Martha on her son George William's marriage certificate, to Charlotte E Carson, which I just found online in last few days).

George's younger brother John is my g-grandfather; they had an older brother Henry, who lived with John and helped raise his children after he was widowed young.

All 5 are buried in a family plot in a NYC cemetery, and it was through that cemetery's records that I learned George had died widowed, leaving just 2 living descendants, John & Edna - but unfortunately that wasn't enough to locate them.

We also have a family story that some Decker served in the Civil War - there was even a sword supposedly from that, hanging on wall when my dad was young, in 1920's - but John C. died in 1850's, before Civil War.

You can reach me through email: ###@comcast.net
I have much more to share!  and a few questions :-)
