JOHN C DECKER OF NEW YORK, SON GEORGE W DECKER

I'm looking for information on John C. Decker of New York (probably New York City), who was born somewhere between 1820 and the early 1830s. His wife's name was Martha. Their son, George W. Decker, was my g-grandfather, who married Charlotte Carson.

George W. Decker was born about 1852 and died about 1896, in New York City. Other information I have about John C. Decker, George's father, is that he was a cavalry officer in the Civil War, Union Army.

AND MY REPLY:

Alice, we need to talk :-) My gg-parents are John C Decker and Margaretha Decker (listed as Martha on her son George William's marriage certificate, to Charlotte E Carson, which I just found online in last few days).

George's younger brother John is my g-grandfather; they had an older brother Henry, who lived with John and helped raise his children after he was widowed young.

All 5 are buried in a family plot in a NYC cemetery, and it was through that cemetery's records that I learned George had died widowed, leaving just 2 living descendants, John & Edna - but unfortunately that wasn't enough to locate them.

We also have a family story that some Decker served in the Civil War - there was even a sword supposedly from that, hanging on wall when my dad was young, in 1920's - but John C. died in 1850's, before Civil War.

I have much more to share! and a few questions :-)

This Ella Carson Pease might be my great-great Aunt. Here's the information I have:

My mother remembers that her great Aunt Ella and great Uncle Edward lived in New England when my mother was a child and Ella occasionally would visit them (in Yonkers, NY).

Sisters: Charlotte Carson (my great grandmother), who married George Decker (probably in the late 1880's); Sarah Ann Carson; Emily Carson. I don't have birth or death dates.

Both Charlotte and husband George Decker died in the 1890's (as young adults, somewhere in New York state), and Charlotte's sister Sarah Carson raised their children after their parents' deaths.

Children of Charlotte Carson Decker and George Decker:
Edna May Decker (my grandmother), born October 21, 1888,New York, NY. Married Philip Charles Lamm on April 26, 1917, in New York, NY. Died 1962.
John Decker, worked for National Biscuit Co. in New York, NY, died ca. 1950.
Edith Decker, died very young

My mother tells me that many of her ancestors on her mother's side are buried in Poughkeepsie, NY. She doesn't know if any Carson relatives are buried there, though.

Let me know if you'd like information on Edna and Philip Lamm's descendants.

AND MY REPLY:

Alice, your George Decker was the brother of my great-grandfather John; their parents were German immigrants John C Decker and Margaret, and I have cemetery records showing George died shortly after his wife, leaving 2 children John & Edna.

Would love to share notes!
